The Dodengang is a complex of preserved trenches and was the last piece of the Belgian frontline in World War I. Thousands of Belgian soldiers were killed in the period of 1914-1918. In 1914 – during the battle of the Yzer -the Belgian army was driven back to the de “Bachten de Kupe”, (a land area situated between the Yzer, the coastline and the French border).
